Organizations across the globe, in the public and private sectors, small and large, have discovered the value of Project Management and its strategic importance to the organizations.

The value of strategic project management is present in various forms such as: business excellence, customer satisfaction, enhanced services, financial performance, and human capital professional development and growth.

Project management, probably more than any other domain, touches us in all aspect of our lives - being personal or professional and regardless of our industry sector or background. Project management is used in government, human capital, marketing, media, oil & gas, healthcare, transportation, defense and armed forced, education, technology, telecommunication, municipalities, utilities and the list goes on.

The growth of project management across the globe has been impressive and universal. In our region, project management is embraced by various top executives and governments and there have been many achievements.

However, as any other emerging profession there are growing pains. The growing pains are partially linked to a few myth and misconceptions about project management and various topics related to project management.

In this event, we want to exchange our collective thoughts on this subject. We will share our opinion and seek yours.

The key challenge for all of us is how to recognize the achievements, understand the challenges, identify the opportunities and work toward optimizing the value we can get from such an amazing and dynamic domain.

To be more specific other key questions are
(1) How to build on the growth of professional certifications and project management offices?
(2) Are we implanting the right PMOs – if yes identify successes and if not what is missing?
(3) How to transform certification and PMO challenges into organizational project management opportunities?

Speaker Profile:

Mr. Bauwmans is a senior executive with more than 24 years experience in the projects industry, having worked on capital projects in architecture, urban design, engineering and HR disciplines. In conjunction with the above, Mr. Bauwmans has also been a lecturer at various Academic institutions in South Africa, lecturing topics such as architectural theory, history and design, construction methodology, acoustics and interior design.

Since obtaining his PMP® credential in 1998, Mr. Bauwmans has further engaged in training of various Project Management disciplines to clients in mining, petrochemical, construction, engineering, transport, communications and heavy manufacturing sectors. In the last 8 years he has delivered over 10,000 delegate-days in training project management and related topics, through organizations such as BRP Project Management and PangaeaWorleyParsons, both South African based.Mr. Bauwmans specializes in project management and contract management training in NEC (New Engineering Contract), competency standards development and competence assessment in PM related fields. He is a constituent assessor in PM for the South African Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SSETA), and was part of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) panel for the South African PM Standards Generating Body (PMSG)

Mr. Ajam is a senior professional with more than 20 years of professional experience in the Engineering, Construction, and Process Industries (oil & gas, petrochemical, utilities) and most of his experience has been on the management of projects. His experience is Global obtained in the United States, United Kingdom, South East Asia and the Middle East. Mr. Ajam is the senior partner and co-founder of SUKAD FZ-LLC (SUKAD), a professional consultancy and training service provider that is based in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates but operating across the Middle East. Mr. Ajam is currently serving as SUKAD Chief Executive Officer and lead consultant. In addition to his professional experience, Mr. Ajam has held numerous volunteer leadership roles. These include: serving on the 2008 PMI® EMEA Congress Project Action Team (CoPAT), International Correspondent for PMForum and PMWorldToday (two leading web portals dedicated to promoting Project Management). Mr. Ajam also a co-founder and the first chairman of the Board for the recently established Global Project and Process Management Association (GPPMA), which is based in Dubai, U.A.E. He has been a Project Management Professional (PMP®) for more than 10 years. He is a graduate from the Project Management Institute® (PMI®) prestigious Leadership Institute Masters Class.
